The Heritage Library, a respected history and genealogy library, is seeking a meticulous and

passionate Volunteer Genealogist to join our team. In this role, you will research and document

specific family trees as a public service.

As a volunteer genealogist, you will:

• Conduct extensive genealogical research using public records, historical documents, and

online databases

• Compile, analyze, and interpret genealogical data to create detailed family trees and

lineage reports

• Meet periodically with your client to share progress and collaborate on the research

direction

• Present findings in clear, professional reports and charts

Required Genealogical Skills:

• Proficiency in genealogical research methodologies and tools, including a wide range of

online resources

• Understanding genealogical proof standards and proper source citations

• Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

• Proficiency in genealogical software (Family Tree Maker preferred; training available)

Preferred Soft Skills:

• Excellent interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with clients and

team members

• Demonstrated ability to work independently

Additional Information:

• Volunteers will work with one client at a time

• Clients may be located anywhere in Beaufort County

• Research can be completed remotely, with periodic in-person meetings at either the

Hilton Head Island or Lady’s Island library locations

• Estimated time commitment/average project length

• Any expenses will be reimbursed.
